Gay man attacked at Goodwill with stiletto heel

A Pound Ridge, New York woman shopping at Goodwill was charged after she allegedly attacked a gay man in the eye with her high heel and called him homosexual slurs.

Marcia Angel Murphy, 51, was charged with second-degree assault, intimidation by bigotry and disorderly conduct. She was held in lieu of a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 18.

Sgt. Kelly Connelly said a 31-year-old city man and his mother were shopping in the Goodwill Store on West Broad Street on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. when Murphy entered the same aisle as and accused the mother and son of not making enough room for her cart.

The victim and his mother made room for her, but Marcia’s rantings turned into slurs against the victim and she began to make comments towards his sexual orientation. Connelly said the man, who is gay, told Murphy to stop insulting him but she did not listen. She then raised a blue and gold polka dot high heel shoe towards the victim and proceeded to strike him in the left eye.

The man suffered injuries to his eye and face and was treated and released over the weekend at Stamford Hospital, Connelly said. Police spoke to the Goodwill security guard and he told officers he witnessed the incident between the victim and Murphy and saw Murphy strike him with the high heel.
