An unlicensed city man allegedly driving drunk ran a red light Saturday night and struck another vehicle, police said.
Serhiy Afanasyev, 46, of 203 Greenwich Ave., Stamford, was charged with driving while under the influence, driving while under the influence, no insurance, disobeying traffic control signals and engaging police in pursuit.
Sgt. Kelly Connelly said a woman said she was p.m. driving eastbound on Selleck Ave. at 9:46 p.m. Saturday when her vehicle was struck by another operator traveling in the other direction. Afanasyev was found to be intoxicated as he had a hard time keeping his balance and there was a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage emanating from him, Connelly said.
A witness said he saw Afanasyev in his 2005 Nissan Quest run the light on Selleck and hit the 2011 Honda SUV that the woman was driving eastbound on Selleck. No injuries were reported by either operator.
