House catches fire in North Stamford

|

Stamford firefighters were responding to a house fire on New England Drive near the New Canaan border Monday afternoon.

Heavy flames could be seen coming from the two-and-a-half story house shortly after it was reported just before 2 p.m.

The family that lives in the single-family home evacuated safely, and watched their house burn from across the street. The homeowner said the fire started out small in the back in the back of the house and quickly expanded up the back of the house and to the upper story.

Stamford, Belltown and Turn of River stations sent crews to battle the blaze, while neighbors arrived to watch and offer help to the family.

The fire was mostly extinguished by about 2:30 p.m.
