There’s a new deals Website in town, folks.
TheDoGooder.com is a daily deal Website — like Groupon and LivingSocial (where I spend just about all my money) — that donates a portion of profits to local schools. All the deals and services on the site are marketed as having a “do good” edge. They’re all either local, eco-friendly, humanitarian or proven socially responsible.
Here’s more about how it works:
Since the site is so new, there really aren’t many schools on yet. After creating an account and taking a quick e-tour this morning, the only school with a Stamford connection I spotted on the site is the Stanwich School, but there’s a spot to add your own school to the list. I had trouble finding the deals too, but if it takes off I guess they’ll start pouring in, right?
The site’s founder, Marc Ozburn wrote in a statement that he expects TheDoGooder.com to catch on pretty quickly. Here’s a bit from the statement the company e-mailed me:
“It is no secret that daily deal sites have ushered in a new way for companies to make money on the Internet,” says TheDoGooder.com Founder Marc Ozburn. “With copycat sites to Groupon and LivingSocial cropping up daily, it was important for me to create something that not only contributed to the greater good, but that differentiated us as well.”TheDoGooder.com joins an industry that a BIA/Kelsey study estimates to generate 3 billion this year and could reach 4 billion by 2015.
