Category: GeneralDay 17: We cheatedCruised into the OG (Old Greenwich) in a Mercedes SUV. Our Dolphin Cove host, Anthony Domino, made us an offer we couldn’t refuse. Heading through Dolphin CoveSpent a few minutes with Bob Bartram,a North Stamford man who was fishing for striped bass. Day 17: No beer hereApparently, you can’t buy beer at the corner liquor store at 7 a.m. And since I couldn’t buy any yesterday since, you know, I live in Connecticut, my plan to have a cold, refreshing beverage waiting for me at the end of our journey has been foiled… -CP On our wayI’m at O&G Industries waiting to begin Day 17: Still I riseI’m not going to kid you, I’m turning 30 next month but I have the endurance and flexibility of an out-of-shape 73-year-old. Needless to say, after taking something of a beating yesterday, I ache. I’ll be the first to quote the late ODB here on the Breaking the Sound Barrier blog: “…get the money, dolla, dolla bill, y’all.” I got a job to do, I need that paycheck. And, well, it’s actually sort of fun, but I’m just glad that this – my fourth day walking the coast – will be my last. –CP Day 17: I’m up!Actually I’ve been up for about an hour. At 5:30, my husband looked at his watch, said to me, “Aren’t you supposed to get up really early?” and the alarm went off a milisecond later, no joke. Today we’re starting at Pulaski Street Bridge in Stamford and walking to Greenwich Point. Our tour will start with O&G asphalt plant (we called ahead and they’re giving us a walk-through with hard hats), then hit the Crab Shell, Avalon, Dophins’ Cove, and into Greenwich. Wish us luck! Things I’m prepared with: Shorts bugspray tank top tennis shoes sunscreen water Still to come: breakfast. Day 16: Yet another videoThe “technical glitch” Monica refers to in her previous post is a reference to my not turning my mic on at key moments and my incorrect assumption that a reporter with no experience with this particular $4,000 video camera and its many, many buttons would be able to set the exposure correctly. That, and I was so beat up and tired by the end of the walk, shooting video was the last thing on my mind. I have to meet up with Maggie Perez and Marty Cassidy tomorrow for our next installment so all I can do at this point is to relax, nurse a cold cocktail and get some sleep. –CP |
