Yep, that was the idea. Ever seen those Power-Mom protein commercials when the Atkins diet was in? I kept myself well fed and by afternoon was significantly less cranky than Chris "the burger man" Preovolos, who didn't eat all day.

It's kind of funny that the Southfield Park beach is just a couple of blocks from the exclusive Dolphin Cove, because you suddenly go from dumpy to well manicured in a few seconds. If you wear a Lily Pulitzer outfit or golf skirt and look well groomed, you can easily sneak into the Dolphin Cove club and sit on the beach there and pretend you are a guest of a resident. You can even sit by the pool too, or at a picnic table, although I wouldn't recommend trying to launch one of the kayaks. And obviously, I don't recommend sneaking in. I am just saying that it can be done.

I grew up in Fairfield and still love the beach there. Thank you for a wonderful series on the Sound. I was just in Milford visiting family and caught some of your articles in the paper. Wonderful online content too. Maybe you could make this a regular feature and help monitor the health of the local ecosystem. I had no idea you could eat the oysters again. Bravo!

An interesting video.

Part of the reason their taxes are high is they choose to pay supplementary taxes to insure their facilities are not used by other Norwalk residents, in other words african americans and hispanics.

An interesting aside, two years ago I was approached at the Rowayton Metro North Station and asked to conribute $$ to build a playground at Bayley Beach. I asked if my family could use this facility as we lived in West Norwalk not Rowayton. The answer was no.

A very welcoming little village.....

I am caucasian and a typical 40ish Brooks Brothers looking commuter - had I not been so attired I am sure they would not have solicited me for money

How did you get on Bayley Beach without being a resident ? Also please remember Rowayton is part of Norwalk. The residents rely on Norwalk schools, police services, etc .

Very nice that you're writing about ur shore trekking...BUT there are more important issues the Advocate should be standing up for!!

For example: The City of Stamford has a multimillion dollar account for retired city employees, and a financial advisor dipped his hand into it and lost 15 million dollars over the past year. This must be stopped. Now the City of Stamford is requiring that us taxpayers make up for that 15 million!! It's absurd and irresponsible to raise taxes and recoup these losses.

Secondly, Governor Rell should seriously consider shutting down the whole UCONN athletic program to save 50 million dollars over the next 5 years. Instead, the college students can do volunteer work for seniors and earn credits for that work. The money that is saved can be used to bring back police for our streets.

The take-out foods are good at Rowayton Market and no, you don't have to live in Rowayton to shop there. Actually, the staff is quite pleasant

Wait til you get to Rowayton. Their beach is ultra exclusive - you won't get near it. I think they charge an outrageous amount to even walk on it !

This is all intended to keep the african-americans, hispanics and the less well-heeled of norwalk out.

MariAn and B.K.: nice to meet you both and the walk was very informative. Thanks to you I learned even more about Pine Creek. Thanks for creating this documentary "Breaking The Sound Barrier". By the way, those shirts you wore on the walk, you should sell them on the website or in the paper..keep up the excellent work, and thanks for the powerbar and sunscreen. And, it sounds like you didn't get arrested trespassing on your way to Westport..

I am a volunteer that works with the Great Meadows Marsh Program, working with Fourth graders from the Stratford Schools. We teach about the Marsh and the Long Island Sound make-up, protection of, and animals that live here. I also taught with Save the Sound, Inc. when they operated and education program. Please be in touch. Sincerely, Charlotte
