Alejandro Rodriguez is returning as captain of the Greenwich basketbal team for a second year.
The Greenwich boys basketball team is returning a few players that can fill up the basket but how far they ultimately go will rest on the shoulders of its defense.
“Defense is the key,” tri-captain Alejandro Rodriguez said. “We definitely have some skills on offense, a lot of players can really score but if we can play together as a team on defense I think we are going to win a lot of games.”
Greenwich will play mostly man-to-man but will also use a trapping zone when the situation calls for it.
“We certainly want to teach and play a hard man-to-man defense and add some trapping zones as well,” Head Coach Bill Brehm said.
According to Brehm the defense will have to improve over what he has seen so far in practice.
“We need to do a better job in certain spots defensively with our defensive rotation. We are adding a few different wrinkles that we have not done in the past,” Brehm said. ”I think our rebounding is going to be key. So that is something that I am not real happy with yet but I think our defense is going to be a big key like it always is.”
The Greenwich defense will be put to the test Wednesday night when they open their season against Stamford.
