The Greenwich High School boys basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season by winning the Tony LaVista Tournament, while the Cardinals’ wrestling team split its four matches with Norwalk, Xavier, Harding and Danbury. Here’s a look at the day’s standout performers.
Greg Donlic, Greenwich boys basketball: The senior forward scored a season-high 27 points, 17 of which came during the second half, to lead Greenwich to a 50-47 victory against Darien in the finals of the Tony LaVista Tournament. Donlic, who made all but two of the Cardinals’ shots from the field during the second half, was named the tournament’s MVP.
Ryan Whittle, Mark Chien, Matt Diddel, Greenwich wrestling: Whittle went 3-1 in his four matches with three pins in the 170-pound weight class for Greenwich. Diddel (152), was a perfect 3-0, while Chien (106), finished 3-1 with three pins for the Cardinals (5-3).
