Spezzano, Jeffrey lead Mid Fairfield Stars to nationals

by:

After sparking the Greenwich High School girls ice hockey team to another highly successful season Meghan Spezzano and Hannah Jeffrey have helped the Mid Fairfield Stars Under-19 Tier II team reach the USA Hockey Tier II National Hockey Championships in Dallas, Tx.
The Stars qualified for the national tourney by recording a 3-1 win over the Edgewood Lady Hawks from R.I., in the championship game of the Regional Tournament this past Sunday at Shelton Rinks. Spezzano scored Mid Fairfield’s second goal of the game and Jeffrey registered two assists for the victors, who avenged a 3-1 loss to Edgewood earlier in the tournament.

Lara Schnitzler and Nicole Caruso added a goal apiece for the Stars.
The Stars (30-9-3), who also won the Connecticut State championship and were the Girls American League champs in their league’s Platinum Division, will compete in their first game at the National Hockey Championships on March 28.

Jeffrey and Spezzano powered the Cardinals’ first line for years. Jeffrey, a senior, left the program as Greenwich’s all-time leading scorer, while Spezzano, also a senior, is the Cardinals’ all-time assists leader.
The dynamic scoring duo helped lead Greenwich into the FCIAC finals and the state quarterfinals.
