Wednesday’s sports stars of the day

There were plenty of standout performances Wednesday in what was a busy scholastic sports day. Here’s a look a the top stars.
Erica Ambrogio, Greenwich High School softball: The senior shortstop went 4 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored in the Cardinals’ 13-4 win over McMahon.
Hannah Staab, Greenwich Academy softball: Staab pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts in the Gators’ 6-1 victory against Canterbury. Staab helped her own cause, driving in two runs.
Brooke Nethercott, Greenwich High girls golf: Nethercott, a senior, shot a 39, as the Cardinals began their season by defeating New Canaan, 198-202.
Alex Moeser, Greenwich High School lacrosse: The junior recorded three goals and one assist to help power the Cardinals to a 14-3 win over Stamford.
Camilla Vik, Greenwich Academy golf: Vik edged the No. 1 player from Miss Porter’s School, 2-up and beat her foe from Hotchkiss, 3-and-2. The Gators won both matches 5-0.
Peter Geithner, Lewis Morant, Brunswick track and field: Geithner (800-meter run, 1500-meter run) and Morant (100, 200-meter run) each had first-place finishes in their respective events for the Bruins in their tri-meet against Taft and Trinity Pawling.
