Greenwich girls lacrosse is loaded

Claire Feeney of Greenwich

If Ridgefield had hopes of joining the elite of the FCIAC girls lacrosse field they got a loud wake up call Thursday night in Greenwich as the Cardinals shut the Tigers out in the second half on their way to a 15-3 win.

 * It was my first time covering the team but Greenwich is stacked with talent in all three parts of the field.

The offense was on fire led by sophomore Carolyn Paletta, junior Emily Johnson and senior Claire Feeney.

The midfield created scoring chances and moved the ball around well with Sophie Waine, Shannon Colligan and Tori Dunster dominating play in the middle of the field.

The defense was on top of its game anchored by Hannah Jeffrey in goal and seniors  Megan O’Leary, Izzy Mackell and Liz Robben on the back line.

 * A steady rain was falling but props to the Greenwich athletic department for providing tents for both teams and at the scorer’s table.

I was prepared with my Helly Hanson jacket and pants but I was not able to put them to the test as I stayed dry under the tent.

 * Greenwich begins a tough stretch with games against Darien, New Canaan, Staples and Wilton coming up to finish off the year.
