Several of the teams in town enjoyed successful season-openers. Here’s a look at Wednesday’s top performers.
Dylan Wadsworth, Brunswick basketball: Wadsworth scored a team-high 19 points for the Bruins in their 64-44 win over FAA rival King School.
Alex Wolf, Greenwich basketball: Wolf’s 16 points powered the Cardinals past Warde, 54-49 in their season-opener.
Erin Ferguson, Dart Freccia Greenwich girls hockey: Ferguson registered two goals and one assist in Greenwich’s 3-1 season-opening win over rival Ridgefield. Freccia was rock solid in goal, making 48 saves.
Sasha Fritts, Greenwich Academy hockey: Fritts scored twice for the Gators, who used a strong third period to turn back Rye Country Day, 4-2.
Jenny Cespedes, Greenwich basketball: Cespedes scored a team-high 15 points for the Cardinals, who were edged by Warde, 53-50 on a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Grace Isford, Sacred Heart swimming: Isford won two events for the Tigers in their meet against Loomis Chaffee, winning the 200-meter freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
John Erdman, Brunswick wrestling: Erdman pinned his opponent in the final match of the day, giving Brunswick a 42-38 win over Choate Rosemary Hall.
