Greenwich High School junior Danny Guise spent the Holiday season excelling on the golf course in Florida.
Guise, who helped lead Greenwich’s golf team to the state and FCIAC championship last season, competed in three events down south over the Christmas break – the Dave Adamonis Sr. U.S. Challenge Cup, the Doral Publix Junior Classic and the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship.
For the second straight year, Guise’s New England team defeated Team Florida in the annual Dave Adamonis Sr. U.S. Challenge Cup, which was played at the TPC Blue Monster course at Doral Resort in Miami on Dec. 20. Like last year, the outcome came down to Guise’s performance in the final group on the final hole. As he did last winter, Guise got up and down for par on the 18th hole, securing the victory for Team New England.
Guise then finished second in the Doral Publix Junior Classic, which was also held at the Doral Resort Dec. 21-23. Competing against 210 junior golfers from 45 countries, Guise shot a 1-under-par 215 for his second-place finish. He finished just one shot behind winner Alex Matlari of Germany. Guise, who will play golf at Wake Forest University in the fall, was the only American Player that finished in the top 12.
He carried his success into the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, placing eighth in the four day tournament (Dec. 27-30) with a 1-under 283. Guise was one of four American players to finish among the top 20 in the event, which was held in Coral Gables, Fla., and featured junior golfers from 31 countries.
