It was a pretty busy Saturday for our Greenwich-based sports teams. Here’s the day’s standout peformances.
Greenwich High School cheerleading: The Cardinals finished a strong third at the FCIAC Championships. Congratulations to Cardinals coach MaryAnne Catalano for being named FCIAC Coach of the Year.
Mark Chien, Greenwich High wrestling: Chien went 3-0 at the Chaco Duals, winning all three of his 106-pound matches by pinfall. The Cardinals beat Fairfield Prep, Newtown and Haddam-Killingworth.
Brunswick wrestling: The Bruins beat Chase Collegiate and Hotchkiss to raise their record to 21-2 on the season. The Bruins concluded their dual meet season a perfect 13-0 against New England opponents.
Galen Hughes, Greenwich Academy basketball: The senior center scored a game-high 21 points in the Gators’ 55-36 win over Hopkins School.
Emily O’Sullivan, Sacred Heart basketball: O’Sullivan scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Tigers, who topped Chase Collegiate, 62-35.
Kitty Arenz, Hannah Goodrick, Greenwich Academy swimming: Arenz won the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, while Goodrick had first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle for the Gators in their meet vs. Hamden Hall. GA cruised to an 89-67 win.
