Greenwich girls indoor track team excels at states

The Greenwich High School girls indoor track and field team made their mark at the CIAC Class LL Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Behind numerous impressive performances, the Cardinals placed a strong fifth out of 21 teams with a team score of 33. Norwich Free Academy won the LL title (83.50), followed by Staples (58), Glastonbury (46.50) and Ridgefield (46).

The Cardinals’  4 x 200 meter relay team of Isabella Narvaez, Anna Black, Emily Johnson and Naomi Leeds crossed the finish line first in 1:47.08. Narvaez had a second-place finish in the 300-meter dash, registering a time of :41.46. The 4 x 400 relay team of Narvaez, Black, Jenny Goggin, Elizabeth Warner, Treloara Harrisson and Leeds placed third in an impressive 4:08.96.

The 1600-meter sprint medley relay was another event the Cardinals flourished in. Lindsey Noskin, Johnson, Goggin, Kathryn Bernstein, Mia Bonanno and Anna Giannuzzi finished second in the event, clocking in at 4:25.66.

On the boys side for Greenwich, Daniel Wilbanks posted a fifth-place finish in the 1000-meter run (2:37.67).
