OGRCC girls basketball championships

The OGRCC Girls Basketball League wrapped up it’s second season of play with three championship games Saturday at Greenwich Academy.
The league has grown to 16 teams from 12 last year and to 180 kids from 130 since last season.
2nd-3rd Grade Division
The Sun defeated the Fever 23-16 in the first championship of the day.
Kaylie Kitselman led the Sun with 7 points and played solid defense.
Also contributing were Caroline “CC” Yu with 6 points, Alice Walker and Sarah Augustine with 4 points each and Lily Ornstein with 2 points.
Solid defense and rebounding was provided by Sarah Deschamps and Demi Demakes.
The Fever were the regular season champs and battled throughout with Julia Altamore, Heidi McGannon and Mackie Nelson scoring 4 points apiece.
Rachel D’Ascoli and Kate hong each chipped in 2 points while Ceci Tauber, Natalie Kraninger, Nina Clark and Jane Fryer provided solid rebounding and defense.
4th-5th Grade Division
Led by Leah Caputo’s 14 points the Mystics defeated the Suns 24-15.
Contributing offensively for the Mystics were Katie Rivelli and Marielle Povinelli with 4 points each and Charlotte Price with 2 points.
The team’s strong defensive effort was led by Sophia Giordano, Chloe Trogni, Olivia McClammy and Madison Slattery.
The Sun kept it close until the end and were led by Sophie Dixon’s 8 points while Annie Frey chipped in 6 points and Maddie Cook added 1.
Also contributing were Jennie Olmstead, Lily DeOliveira, Kaila Frigon, Madison Farello, Emma Olmstead and Lily Russian.
6th-8th Grade Division
A thriller that came down to the last seconds featuring the Sun against the Lynx ended with Sophia Chow’s clutch free throw with 10 seconds left gave the Sun a 21-20 victory.
Kim Kockenmeister led the fourth quarter comeback for the Sun with 11 points while Chow chipped in 5 points. Christine Nelli had 3 points, and Jackie Cochran had 2 points.
Solid defense and rebounding were provided by Isabelle Jackson, Shelby Todd, Miriam Ojjeh, Sophie Anderlind and Stephanie Allan.
The Lynx were a formidable foe throughout the game and got a solid offensive effort from Simone Whooley with 6 points, Jessica Spitzer with 4 points and 2 points apiece from Katie Large, Michelle Morganti, Ella Holl, Grace Ryan and Ashley Feighery.
Solid defense and rebounding was provided by Kelly Brogan, Lindsay Manos and Grayson Muskus.
