The YMCA of Greenwich Marlins made breaking records a habit at the Connecticut Age Group Championships recently at Wesleyan University, setting state records in four events.
The Marlins’ girls 13-14 year-old 400-yard medley relay team established a state record in winning the event in 3:59.05. The 400 medley relay team included Quinn Scannell, Carolyn Morikawa, Diana Tramontano and Malavika Pande.
The YMCA’s foursome of Jason Marsella, Eisuke Takahashi, Conway Zhou and Nicholas Todorovic set the state mark in the boys 10-and-under 200 medley relay in 2:08.33 and won the 10-and-under 400 medley relay in a record time of 4:42.04.
Alex Jahan put his name in the state record books, swimming a 58.40 in the 100 breaststroke.
“It was an exhausting weekend, but none of us would have missed it for anything,” said Tessa Campbell, one of the Marlins’ coaches. “All our swimmers did great, we are so proud of all of them. To bring home four state records makes all the training, sore muscles and damp hair worth it. As coaches, we feel very lucky to have swimmers and families that work hard, are dedicated and supportive of the team.”
