The Greenwich High School sailing team made an impressive showing at the Connecticut Regional Qualifier last weekend – a qualifier for the New England Schools Fleet Racing Championship – at Indian Harbor Yacht Club. The regatta included 11 teams from across the state, with 22 boats being launched in both the A and B divisions. Senior co-captains Jack McGuire and  Hailey Ullmann sailed in Greenwich’s A boat. In the B division, senior co-captain Billy Baxter and sophomore crewmate Natalie Anibal sailed. After the first half of the day, Greenwich stood in second place behind Hotchkiss School, trailing by only two points.

Brunswick School was in third place behind Greenwich. In the final race, the wind shifted 180 degrees, which made for some exciting racing. After eight races were completed, McGuire and Ullmann won the A fleet and Baxter and Anibel posted a second-place finish in the B division. Hotchkiss School won the regatta with a team score of 33 points, followed by GHS (38) and Brunswick (57). The Cardinals are currently qualifying in the New England Championships and the right to win the O’Day Trophy this weekend and have their sights set on qualifying for Nationals. Last season, the Cardinals had an impressive run at Nationals, placing 10th overall.
