Row America Rye, a newly-formed rowing club out of Rye, placed second in the C Finals for the Men’s Youth Eight at the Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Seven members of the team, Oliver Grueterich, John Oswald, Vaughan Merrick, Will Cecio, Trevor Frey, Herbie Marache and Lucas Colagrossi are seniors at the Greenwich High School and teamed up with Hutch Bryant from Rye High School and Stevie Ortiz from Iona Prep.

In their first race of the regatta, RAR faced off against 5 other crews, including perennial powerhouse Oakland Strokes from Oakland, California and highly regarded Central Catholic from Pittsburgh.  In what turned out to be the fastest race of the entire regatta, RowAmerica Rye came in third position, completing the mile and a quarter race (2000 meters) in a blistering 5 minutes and 52 seconds, just 12 seconds behind the winner Oakland Strokes and 6 seconds behind Central Catholic.
