Numerous YMCA of Greenwich water polo players recently received honors in several categories by USA Water Polo. Here’s a look at the athletes from the YMCA of Greenwich that earned such honors.

ACADEMIC ALL AMERICANS
James Baker, Blake Hallisey, Hollis Jomo, Jack Kerwin, Matthew Otsuka, Sander Profaci, Emma Soderquist and Alex Zim. Additionally, each player was further recognized for “outstanding achievement” since they had a 4.0 or greater GPA.

ALL-AMERICANS
Honored for their exemplary performance at the National Junior Olympics this past summer in Orange County, Calif. were: Julia Merrill – Selected as an All-American for the 12-under girls age-group. Merrill was a top utility player who helped her Junior Olympic team finish seventh out of 24 teams.

Kayla Barone – Selected as an All-American for the 12-under girls age group. Barone was the leading scorer on the team. Ally Furano – Selected as an All-American for the 14-under girls age group. Furano was an all-around player who helped her JO team place 11th out of 48 teams.

INTERNATIONAL DEBUT
Thomas Dunstan was selected for the USA Youth National Water Polo Team.  Dunstan, a 15-year-old left-hander, was one of only 13 players selected for the National Team. He  traveled to Argentina at the end of August to represent the United States at the 2013 UANA Championships. The team beat Canada twice, Uruguay, Argentina, Trinidad and Peru before taking home the silver medal after a 9-8 loss to Brazil in the finals. A starter on the squad, Dunstan should make some waves on the national level in the future.
