Brunswick football team earns bowl bid vs. Phillips Andover


Seven straight victories earned the Brunswick School football team a long awaited trip to the postseason.

The 7-1 Bruins will play 8-0 Phillips Andover Academy in the Jack Etter Bowl on Saturday at 1 p.m. The NEPSAC Bowl Selection Committee announced Saturday’s five bowl games Sunday morning. The Brunswick-Phillips Andover Academy game is tentatively scheduled to be held at Avon Old Farms School. Brunswick athletic director Jeff Harris said the site may be confirmed on Monday.

Brunswick, which last appeared in a postseason game in 2006, clinched a berth with a 42-0 Senior Day win over Berkshire School on Saturday. The Bruins, Kent School and Avon Old Farms each finished 6-1 in the Housatonic League. Kent posted an overall record of 6-2, while Avon finished 8-1, but lost to Brunswick. Avon Old Farms will face Suffield Academy (8-0) in the Arthur Valicenti Bowl.

The Bruins have scored more than 40 points in six of their eight games and more than 30 points in all of its matchups. Based in Andover, Mass., Phillips Andover Academy is coming off a 13-12 win over Phillips Exeter Academy on Saturday.
