Yajima, who is in her fourth season competing at the No. 1 singles spot, defeated Villanova’s Mikelle Mancini, 6-2, 6-2. She then teamed up with Carolina Koladzyn at No. 1 doubles, where they beat Villanova’s Mancini and Connor Brewer. Thus far this season, Yajima is 8-5 in singles play and 3-2 in doubles competition.

A Greenwich native, Yajima has enjoyed an outstanding career at Fairfield. The three-time MAAC Player of the Year and All-MAAC First Team member has collected 128 combined victories over the last four seasons – good for third all-time at Fairfield. She is 12 combined victories away from surpassing Dana Postupack for second all-time and 23 away from breaking Paulina Rys’ record of 149.

Yajima went 19-10 in singles play last season and was 7-0 in conference play. In 2011-12, she posted a singles record of 20-8 and was 6-0 against MAAC foes. As a freshman (2010-11) Yajima went 20-4 in singles play and was a perfect 5-0 in the conference. The Stags (4-4) still have 12 matches left before beginning the postseason.
