Brush fire off I-95 slows traffic

UPDATE, 7:10 p.m.: According to the Stratford Fire Department, Engine 1 and Tactical Rescue 5 responded to a 150′ by 150′ brush fire. There was some exposure to wooden barriers in the area, but it was held to where it started without any other significant damage.

UPDATE, 6:30 p.m.: The fire has been knocked down and all lanes are open again. No traffic delays in the area.

UPDATE, 6:15 p.m.: The DOT says the right lane of I-95 SB between exits 30 and 29 is closed because of the brush fire.

6 p.m.: Traffic is slow heading from Stratford toward Bridgeport southbound on I-95 near the exit 29 off-ramp because of a smoke condition caused by a brush fire in the wooded area near the side of the highway.

Smoke can be seen on the exit 30 DOT camera.

The Stratford Fire Department is on scene along with state police.

The on-ramp at exit 30 in Stratford (Surf Avenue) is closed.

Wrong-way driver may have caused Meriden crash

State police say that an elderly woman driving the wrong way on I-91 in Meriden struck two cars and a tractor-trailer, WTNH-TV reports. At least two people were reported to be injured. The crash snarled traffic for more than an hour Wednesday morning.

The Wilbur Cross Parkway, also known as Route 15, was completely closed northbound between Exits 66 and 67 for much of that time because of the crash, the state DOT reported. The parkway and the I-91 access ramp at Exit 17 were reopened at 11:15 a.m. The crash, on I-91 near the juncture of Route 15 required advanced medical equipment and the extrication of at least one victim, according to reports.

Merritt at standstill after 2-car crash

Traffic is crawling on the southbound Merritt Parkway because of a two-car accident near the Route 8 interchange in Trumbull.

The state Department of Transportation said the right lane is closed between exits 52 and 50 while emergency crews respond.

Crash Cleared on I-95

Traffic was congested for about 12 miles early Wednesday morning following an accident on I-95 southbound in Norwalk.

The one-car crash was cleared at 6:38 a.m. The left lane was closed between Exits 16 and 18 from 5:54 a,m., when the crash occurred. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
