Crash jams traffic on Route 8 North in Shelton

UPDATE, 9:45 p.m.: Route 8 North near exit 13 in Shelton is now clear after an earlier accident that sent at least one person to the hospital, State Police say. No other information was immediately available as troopers are currently writing up a report on the accident investigation.

The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m., not after 7:30 as previously reported.

ORIGINAL POST: An accident is slowing traffic on Route 8 northbound as police investigate and the scene is cleared.

The acciden, according to police, fire and EMS dispatches. One person had to be cut out of a vehicle and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital with unknown injuries.

The accident happened just before exit 13 northbound in Shelton.

Traffic is backed up to around exit 11.

No other information was immediately available.

    Thanks, we got the wrong info, originally. It happened between 7:10-7:15, so must have been just before you passed. Firefighters got on scene around 7:15.

    FYI I was on Route 8 Northbound at 7:15 and had to drive through all this… definitely happened before 7:30. Second time in two weeks someone hit and destroyed a light on Route 8 Northbound between Exits 12 and 13. Very bizarre…
