Seymour fatal crash scene still active
A multi-vehicle crash on South Main Street in Seymour early Wednesday has resulted in the death of a 19 year-old man, WTNH-TV reports.
Five other teens were transported to Griffin Hospital, including two distraught witnesses to the crash, according to scanner reports.
State Police are still on the scene. Use Maple Street as an alternate route.
Malloy: Highways will be closed during Sandy
During his morning briefing with the media Monday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said he will order highways shut down across the state when winds reach 45 mph as Hurricane Sandy enters the state.
UPDATE: At 11 a.m. trucks will be prohibited on limited-access highways.
At 1 p.m., state highways will be closed.
Essentially, Malloy said, the state doesn’t have enough resources to close all on-ramps and keep all cars off the roads, but those who do go on the highways will be doing so at their own risk.
Malloy said trucks will be stopped if they try and enter highways.
Nearby states, like New Jersey and New York, are also planning a truck ban and Malloy has said the states will work together to make sure one state doesn’t have to find a place for all the trucks and truckers during the storm.
Say Hi to Sandy
A tree has fallen onto the Merritt Parkway northbound between exits 28-29, blocking all but one lane, officials said.
WTNH forecaster Gil Simmons said as the sun comes up and the tide comes in, conditions are going to worsen, with wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour.
The good news? Less rain than at first projected is likely to fall during the 36-hour storm.
