The big story at the moment is Route 8 south. Here’s a spoiler alert: it’s barely moving from the Seymour line into Shelton.

The Merritt Parkway and I-95 as they follow sort-of parallel tracks through lower Fairfield County are both jammed. Pick either one. You’ll be inching forward and fiddling with the sound system and A/C, but on the Merritt you’ll have trees to look at.

The high speed — remember, everything is relative– is 16 miles per hour through Bridgeport and Fairfield on either route.

The northbound side of I-95 in New Haven, from the West Haven line through Long Wharf is crawling right now, but further south, in Stratford, the same side of the highway is flowing more smoothly through road work related to the Moses Wheeler Bridge construction.

Add I-84 in Waterbury to the highways where delays are likely due to traffic volume. From Baldwin Street to Scott Road, the entire eastern end on the city, vehicles on I-84 east are moving at a snail’s pace.
