Things are slowing down on Route 8 south, beginning at Exit 17, Seymour Avenue near Griffin Hospital. The average speed is 21 miles per hour from there to Howe Avenue in Shelton (Exit 14), the DOT says, before things start picking up again.

The Merritt Parkway is doing pretty well this morning, with the exception of the Bridgeport stretch, from the Route 8/25 merge to Park Avenue, where heavy volume will slow you down to about 27 miles per hour.

From there all the way out to Weston you’ll be travelling at about 38 miles per hour — and it will feel like flying — until things bog down again in Norwalk.

I-95 southbound is its usual weekday morning mess from Bridgeport through Norwalk, with rubber-banding pockets of traffic. You may get up to 40 miles per hour in some stretches, or crawl along at 16 miles per hour in others, but at least you’ll have company.

And isn’t it flattering that so many people want to go where you’re going?
