Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

7 a.m. traffic update

There are delays now on I-95 in Bridgeport. It starts back at Stratford Avenue, Exit 29, and is worst right now at Exit 27A, Layfayette Boulevard downtown. But you won’t really get to press that gas pedal until your past Fairfield. That’s a four-mile stretch and it should look familiar– it’s where things bog down first every weekday morning at about this time.

Road work related to the Moses Wheeler Bridge between Milford and Stratford has narrowed I-95 in that area, and the Exit 34 ramps into Devon will remain closed all day.

The  Merritt Parkway southbound is getting busy between the Route 8/25 connector and Easton Turnpike.

New Haven police have reopened Quinnipiac Avenue following the condo fire that broke out early this morning. Route 69 remains closed in the area of the Wilbur Cross Parkway (ie. the busiest area).

Traffic is also heavy now on I-84 in Waterbury, in both directions, at the infamous “Mixmaster,” that spaghetti tangle of highways, ramps and exits.

Route 8 is still clear through the Valley. Metro North reports no significant delays on its New Haven line trains.
