Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

7 a.m. traffic update

The short work-week may be leading some to take a holiday from their usual morning commute.

There are fewer cars on the region’s highways this morning, as what is normally a hectic “rush hour” builds to, not much at the moment.

There are some minor delays being reported now in the usual spots:

– The bottom of  Route 8/25 where it joins I-95 in Bridgeport. Expect to be of your brakes from Exit 2, Fairfield Avenue, heading southbound.

– I-95 southbound of either side of the Moses Wheeler Bridge over the Housatonic River. Exit 34 on the Milford/Devon side of the bridge will remain closed today for the bridge construction project.

– I-95 southbound between Exits 26-21 in Fairfield, about 4 miles.

– The Merritt Parkway, also in Fairfield, between Exits 49-44 on the southbound side. The average speed through that 5 mile span is 31, the DOT reports. Hey, you’re still moving.

Route 8 is still a clear shot through the Valley and Metro North trains are at or close to schedule.
