Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

7:30 a.m. traffic update

The Merritt Parkway is heating up now, or is it just the drivers steaming at the heavy volume? In any case, expect rubber-banding between the Route 8/25 connector and the Black Rock Turnpike exit southbound, with an average speed through the area of 16 miles per hour.

But sometimes you’ll go faster than that, depending on how familiar the driver ahead of you is with the accelerator. (Hint: It’s the skinny one on the right).

I-95 south is also slow now from Bridgeport through Fairfield, but the average of 31 miles per hour will seem downright zippy compared to the stretch starting at the Sherwood Island Connector in Westport and going to Connecticut Avenue and Route 7 in Norwalk.

The DOT estimates that you’ll be going an average of 11 miles per hour through that nearly nine-mile stretch. Quick, do the math: how long will it take you to go through that area?

If two trains left New Haven at the same time…. Metro North reports no significant delays on its inbound service to Grand Central terminal.
