Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

8:30 a.m. traffic update

While the situation on the Merritt Parkway has greatly improved in the past 30 minutes, I-95 southbound is still a horror show.

Travelling south on the Merritt you’ll find only residual delays and no real backups. And you can gloat because everyone who took I-95 this morning instead  is in the thick of a southern Fairfield County rush hour.

The heaviest delay right now is in Greenwich, on I-95 southbound between exits 7 and 5, the DOT reports.

But the stretch from the Sherwood Island Connector (is it possible that all these people are going to the beach instead of to work?) to Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk is also heavy. Expect to travel at an average speed of 19 miles per hour through that stretch, slow enough that you should be able to sip your coffee without spilling any on yourself.

Route 8 is a fine ride through the Valley and Metro North trains are at or close to schedule.
