Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

8 a.m. traffic update

|

There is a serious accident now on Route 8 northbound in Trumbull.

The backup extends from the White Plains Road exit back to Old Stratford Road (Exit 12). The left lane and shoulder are blocked and traffic is backing up behind it.

The DOT estimates that you’ll go an average of 16 miles per hour through the area, but it is stop and go– there will be points where you won’t be moving at all. Best of avoid the area if you can.

Route 8 southbound is also congested now, in Ansonia near the Pershing Drive exit and further back into Seymour.

With Route 8 being the big story this morning I-95 is relatively quiet. The congested area on the highway is between the Sherwood island Connector (Exit 18) in Westport, through Norwalk and into Darien. Traffic is moving through the area, but at lower than optimal speeds. That means if you didn’t leave enough time you’re going to be late to work.

The Merritt Parkway remains the bucolic, tree-lined pastoral drive its planners envisioned– in 1938.

The trains are on time.
