8:30 a.m. traffic update

The accident on Route 8 north in Trumbull has cleared. Things are easing up on the southbound side too, but there is still some congestion around Ansonia and Derby.

The Merritt Parkway remains wide open, with no significant delays.

Now, the bad news. The heavy volume on I-95 from Westport to Darien is even heavier now. You average speed for more than 10 miles is between 11 and 16 miles per hour, the DOT says. Here’s hoping that the A/C in your car is working.

The tightest spot is where Route 7 joins the interstate in Norwalk. Route 7 south into Norwalk is also congested.

Metro North trains are on or close to schedule. Remember, there will be extra trains leaving the city this afternoon, and tomorrow the trains will be on the holiday schedule.
