Utility pole snapped in half

|

A utility pole was struck by a vehicle and snapped in half Wednesday morning on Barnum Avenue in Bridgeport.

Police had blocked the major thoroughfare between Helen Street and Seaview Avenue while they waited for a United Illuminating Co. repair crew to come to the scene.

A red SUV was parked a short distance away from the pole, but it wasn’t clear whether that was the vehicle that caused the damage.

The wires were still supported on the pole’s brace and arms; none of them appeared to be loose and none were hanging over the street.

It wasn’t clear whether power was affected in the area. The site is across the street from a former factory complex that is boarded up.
