People are hitting the road now, as the morning commute gets underway.

The usual congestion on I-95 southbound extends from Exit 29 in Bridgeport (Stratford Avenue) to Exit 22 (North Benson Road) in Fairfield. Your average speed through that 5-mile stretch won’t get above 20 m.p.h., the DOT says.

Things tighten up again at the East Avenue exit in Norwalk.

There is a multi-car crash at the corner of Post Road and beach Road in Fairfield (really, can you imagine a worse spot in town for one of these?). Although there appear to be no serious injuries, gasoline and motor oil from the vehicles has spilled onto the road and the fire department and a DEEP contractor is cleaning up. Best to avoid the area.

The Merritt Parkway isn’t too bad at the moment. The most congested area is at the Route 111 exit in Trumbull. Traffic is flowing across the Sikorsky Memorial Bridge and near the Route 8/25 and Route 7 interchanges.

Route 8 southbound through the Valley is clear.

Metro North is not reporting any delays on its New Haven line and says Hudson line service is nearly back to normal.
