Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

7 a.m. traffic update

I-95 at Wordin Avenue in bridgeport, 7 a.m.

So, now the Merritt Parkway is also a parking lot.

The state DOT reports heavy volume between Exit 49 in Bridgeport and Exit 42 in Westport, a distance of 11 miles. The average speed through that stretch of  the parkway is 33 miles per hour, dipping in spots to 11.

That should give you plenty of time to think, or to finish your breakfast.

I-95. The story there is getting better. The jack-knifed tractor trailer near Exit 5 southbound in Greenwich has been moved and traffic is squeezing by. The back-up caused by the incident extends back into Stamford, but is beginning to ease.

There is a second patch of heavy volume from the downtown Bridgeport exits southbound through Fairfield. Things ease up after Exit 22.

There is also a line of cars at the bottom of the Route 8/25 connector in Bridgeport waiting to get onto I-95. North or south, people. Pick one.

Between these delays and the rain, it would be a good idea this morning to leave extra time.
