Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

Smooth start to Monday morning rush

|

If you are coming south from beyond New Haven on I-95 remember that the highway has been shifted onto the new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge from the old “Q Bridge.” The changeover caused some havoc over the weekend but traffic is flowing over the new bridge now without any problems.

There is a slowdown on Route 8 north in the area of Exit 12, Old Stratford Road. It looks to be overnight construction just wrapping up but be aware that your travel speed will drop suddenly in that area, down to 24 miles per hour, before picking back up again on the other side.

Route 25 is wide open and the Merritt Parkway and I-95 in Fairfield County are not experiencing any delays at the moment.

Bridgeport police say that there are still a few stragglers in Seaside Park this morning from the Gathering of the Vibes that ended last night, and they will soon be heading out on the highway (to quote a 1968 Steppenwolf sing). So watch for an influx of traffic in Bridgeport on I-95.

Gulp down that coffee and hit the road!
