Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

Morning commute in full swing

I-95 in Norwalk, 9 a.m.

There is an accident on the Merritt Parkway in Stratford. It’s on the southbound side, just past the Sikorsky Bridge, between exits 53-52, which is the access to Route 8 north. There is a line to get onto that ramp.

The right lane is closed; traffic is squeezing by on the left. Vehicles are backed up onto the bridge, with stop-and-go traffic behind it. State Police are on the scene and expect the accident to be cleared within 30 minutes.

The Daniel Wasson Connector in Milford, which links to I-95 and both the Merritt and Wilbur Cross parkways, is also backing up because of the accident. Electric message boards are informing motorists there of the situation, but it’s a good bet some of them are honking their horns anyway.

Because that always helps.

The Merritt is otherwise clear and I-95 is now moving smoothly through Bridgeport.

Things are still backed up on the south side of the highway in Norwalk and into Darien.
