Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

The rush to work is underway now

|

Traffic volume has increased in the last half-hour on both the Merritt Parkway and I-95.

Delays due to congestion now stretch from Exit 27A in downtown Bridgeport to Mill Plain Road in Fairfield, and from East Avenue to Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk, on the southbound side of I-95.

Still, though, you’ll have to slow down only slightly in spots and the DOT says you’ll average between 33 and 41 miles per hour through those zones, depending on the segment you are travelling.

The Merritt is tightening up on the northbound side from the White Plains Road exit in Trumbull down to the Route 8/25 merge and on the southbound side from Route 111 to Easton Road.

Your average speed there is 37 miles per hour, according to the DOT.

Further east, there is a three-vehicle crash– involving a bus–  on I-95 southbound in New Haven, between exits 51-48 and surrounding the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge. The right lane is closed and traffic is backing up into East Haven.

But hey, the trains are still on time.
