Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

And we’re off with the AM commute

|

More kids will be heading back to school today so please use extra caution.

You can also expect more traffic on southwestern Connecticut roads this morning as students, teachers and school staff return.

We saw that yesterday on I-95 and the Merritt with an increased volume of traffic. The early bottlenecks – the southbound stretch between Bridgeport and Fairfield and the Route 25 merge with the Merritt in Trumbull – developed about an hour earlier than what we saw in the summer.

A southbound accident on I-95 in West Haven didn’t help. And there was that tractor-trailer accident in Waterbury that screwed up Tuesday morning.

So far, things are smooth today.

 Merritt/Wilbur Cross parkways

The southbound lanes of the Wilbur Cross in Merident are closed because of downed tree. The area, between Exits 67W and 67S, is near the I-91 merge.

On the Merritt it’s a good ride with no major congestion issues.

Interstate 95

Starting to see traffic building around southbound Exit 27 in Bridgeport. Traffic is still moving at a decent clip in the mid-40s mph range.

Metro-North

On or close to schedule, so far.
