Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

Roads are becoming slick with snow

|

UPDATED 9 AM

A car has spun completely around and struck a stone wall at the White Plains Road underpass of Route 8 north in Trumbull.

There is a crash on Route 8 south at Exit 15 in Derby right now, that is affecting traffic in an already-busy stretch.

This is one of a flurry of minor accidents spreading across the region to accompany the steady snowfall.

Earlier we saw a crash on the southbound side of the Merritt Parkway near Exit 49 in Bridgeport. Traffic was already getting heavy there; this will slow it down to a crawl.

The Merritt Parkway is very slow from Black Rock Turnpike to Main Avenue in Norwalk.

I-95 itself is getting crowded southbound from Exits 27 t0 21, a five-mile stretch spanning the Bridgeport–Fairfield line.

I-95 is heavy again southbound through Norwalk and Darien.

The Merritt Parkway is slow from Black Rock Turnpike to Wilton Road.

Route 8 south is seeing heavy traffic volume from Derby through Shelton.

Snow is falling across the region and the state DOT is warning motorists that slippery conditions are possible, especially on entrance and exit ramps and on untreated side roads.

Bradley Airport says that four flights have been cancelled so far because of the storm. If you are scheduled to fly today, from any of the region’s airports, it is best to call ahead.
