Southwestern Connecticut traffic updates from the staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group

Heavy delays make Friday night commute a long one

|

It’s a tough ride home in southwestern Connecticut tonight.

On a clear but frigid evening with a major storm approaching, we’re seeing delays all across the region, especially in the usual spots on the Merritt Parkway and Interstate 95. Both highways have northbound speeds in the 20 mph range from Stamford all the way into Bridgeport.

Going south, we’ve got an accident near Exit 38 on the Merritt Parkway that’s slowing things way down near the Route 7 interchange. Route 7 is also slow going at the connector with I-95.

Further north, we’ve also got a tractor trailer accident on Interstate 84 eastbound between Exits 8 and 9 in Newtown. The state Department of Transportation says that incident has the right shoulder closed and that it could take up to three hours to clear.
