Giulietti outlines 100-day plan

In a letter to state transportation Commissioner James Redeker sent Monday, newly installed Metro-North President Joseph Giulietti has outlined his 100-day plan for addressing the issues that resulted in a disastrous past year for the railroad and pledged to do better.

Safety, improved communications and restoring the railroad’s on-time performance are Giulietti’s three top priorities. He said he is awaiting the findings of three ongoing investigations being performed by the Federal Railroad Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and an internal blue-ribbon commission to determine if other corrective measures are needed.

This plan, at best, will return MNR to its previous snail-speed schedule. I once saw a New Haven line schedule from the 1920s and the speeds then were faster than today. It’s a sad story of decline from first world status.
