I-95 Exit 2 ramp finally reopens in Greenwich

|

Updated 11 p.m.

Exit 2 has finally reopened, some 15 hours after a tractor-trailer pulled down electric and telephone wires at a stop sign on the Exit 2 off-ramp.

Updated 9:30 p.m.

Exit 2 is still closed almost 14 hours later but should open within the hour according to Connecticut Light and Power who are on scene setting a down pole. Downed wires were removed but a boat on a trailer which brought them down is still on scene. Check HERE for live cams to see if it has been opened.

It looks like exit 2 is still closed on the southbound I-95, snarling traffic during the after work commute. Traffic from that incident is backed up and starts at exit 9 in Stamford. You can check a live traffic map HERE.

UPDATED 10:10 AM

Two Town of Greenwich officials told Greenwich Time reporter Anne Semmes that the driver of the tractor-trailer that pulled down electric and telephone wires at a stop sign on the Exit 2 off-ramp then fled north on the highway.

Someone noted the marker plate of his truck, and the vehicle was stopped. The driver, who has not yet been identified, has been arrested.

The Exit 2 ramp is still closed, but as “rush hour” wears on, the traffic behind it has begun to ease. I-95 south through Darien and Stamford is moving fairly well gain; Norwalk is still a parking lot.

UPDATED 9:25 AM

The Exit 2 ramp on I-95 in Greenwich is still closed, while crews clear a broken utility pole and downed wires after a tractor-trailer accident nearly two hours ago.

The delays now stretch back into Norwalk, where heavy volume is backing up traffic into Westport. It’s 20 miles of stop-and-go.

Here’s what it looks like out there: traffic moving through the area at about 25 miles per hour, according to data from DOT traffic cams. Remember, this is the Exit 2 ramp, not the highway itself, though it is affecting traffic for about five miles.

Bigger delays start near the Stamford-Darien line and stretch back into Norwalk; that’s due to heavy traffic volume.

ORIGINAL POST:

There is an accident blocking the shoulder of the Merritt Parkway northbound, between Exits 48-49 in Trumbull.

It is the only snag in an otherwise smooth ride in to work and school this morning.

I-95, Routes 7, 8 and 25 are all flowing smoothly.

Metro North trains are on or close to schedule.
