|

A Bridgeport man was killed on I-95 in Branford early this morning when his motorcycle was hit from behind by another motorcycle.

Kirk Orlando Valentine, 37, of Mill Hill Avenue, died from injuries sustained in the accident that happened around 1 AM.

According to State Police, Valentine was traveling in the right northbound lane, when he was struck from behind by a motorcycle being driver by Royce Burns Jr., 24, of Kelsey Avenue in West Haven.

State Police said Valentine’s 2012 Suzuki GSX 1300 Hayabusa motorcycle “slowed quickly” and then was struck by Burn’s 2014 Aprilia RSV4 motorcycle.

Both drivers lost control of their motorcycles and were thrown onto the highway.

They were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Valentine later died of his injuries. Police said Burns “complained of pain and obvious injury to his right arm.”

The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Exit 54 (Cedar Street). It closed all NB lanes. Traffic was diverted off the highway.

The accident remains under investigation.

The lanes reopened around 5 AM.
