UPDATED 9:10 AM

Traffic is about the same, ie. heavy, in the Fairfield County corridor of I-95 south.

The Merritt Parkway southbound is no picnic, though there are spots where it opens up. Right now the biggest “cohorts,” as the DOT calls slow traffic, are near the Fairfield rest area, near the Route 7 connector and in North Stamford.

UPDATED 8:15 AM

Traffic is much heavier now than it was 30 minutes ago.

You’ll be lucky to top out at 20 miles per hour on the Merritt Parkway south between Trumbull and Weston.

The same conditions exist on I-95 south from Bridgeport into Westport and again from Norwalk into Stamford.

The state DOT, using data from its traffic cams, says your average speed through these zones will be 17-29 miles per hour.

The morning commute moves south…

You’ll still be able to drive nearly the speed limit. But that doesn’t mean you should. Leave plenty of distance to allow for sudden slowdowns.
