The state Department of Transportation says the entrance to the rest stop is closed as state police investigate the crash, which happened around 11:15 p.m.

The DOT says it could be until early morning before the rest stop is re-opened.

According to police radio transmissions, the crash involved a car and a parked tractor-trailer. It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured.

The rest stop is located near exit 22.

A truck driver was killed in a crash on the northbound side of the highway while he was parked in the rest stop on Dec. 1. He was sleeping in the truck’s cabin when a car went airborne and smashed into the tractor-trailer.

The railroad said to listen to announcements at stations for updates. The MTA announced the delays around 10:20 p.m., and didn’t say how long it would take for service to return to normal.

Only the left lane is open.

It was not immediately known if anyone was hurt in the crash. Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, along with state police and Stamford fire.

The accident is causing delays from the New York state line to exit 6, the DOT says.

The accident happened near the Sand Hill Plaza shopping center.

The victim was an 18-year old man whose name has not been released, Newtown Police Sgt. Doug Wisentaner said.

The crash happened around 2:35 p.m., and it is was cleared around 3:05 p.m.

It was not immediately known if anyone was injured in the crash.

The highway is congested between exits 11 and 17, about a 14-mile stretch of the highway. State officials say they hope to open at least one lane by 9:30 or 10 p.m. The accident happened around 4:30 p.m.

UPDATE: At 11 a.m. trucks will be prohibited on limited-access highways.

At 1 p.m., state highways will be closed.

Essentially, Malloy said, the state doesn’t have enough resources to close all on-ramps and keep all cars off the roads, but those who do go on the highways will be doing so at their own risk.

Malloy said trucks will be stopped if they try and enter highways.

Nearby states, like New Jersey and New York, are also planning a truck ban and Malloy has said the states will work together to make sure one state doesn’t have to find a place for all the trucks and truckers during the storm.

Metro-North didn’t report any service changes, but other commuters on Twitter said they were stuck behind the disabled train.

The train’s passengers had to be moved onto a second train that was brought alongside it, according to the commuter, Robert Foley. He said the two trains weren’t the same model, so they didn’t align properly, and passengers could only exit from certain doors, delaying the process.

The train began moving again around 7:45 p.m.

Foley said he was told by Metro-North employees that the train broke down because the engine overheated. He said he was on a train yesterday that had the same issue.

A Metro-North spokesperson couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
