Archive for 2009Stop and startPlay was halted at 5:41 p.m. because of bad weather but we just got the word that we’ll restart at 7 p.m. - Neill A three shot swingKerry Perry has jumped back into the lead after he birdied No. 11 to climb to 14-under. What happened to John Merrick, you ask? Merrick, who had been tied with Perry at 13-under, hit his tee shot on No. 12 out of bounds (way, way left) and took a double bogey to drop to 11-under. Hunter Mahan (remember him?) the 2007 Travelers champ, is ripping the TPC River Highlands apart, standing 8-under through 15 holes to get to 12-under. How much does Mahan like the TPC? In his past three tournaments here, he’s gone second, first and second, a combined 43-under par. Wow. Perry pulls evenKenny Perry made a birdie on No. 8 and is now tied with John Merrick at 13-under. It’s a long way from over. Still seems like there are a lot of low scores coming in. - Neill It’s a shoot-out at the TPC corralHunter Mahan is on fire. Five birdies in a row have him 11-under for the tournament. John Merrick is almost as hot. He’s at 13-under after five birdies on his first seven holes. There might be a 59 out here. (I know, we thought there would be on Thursday, too…but this time we’re serious). - Neill Merrick still red-hotJohn Merrick just made birdie on the par-5 sixth hole (after reaching the green in two and missing an 8-foot eagle putt) and is alone in first again at the Travelers. He’s 12-under. Hunter Mahan, who usually plays this course like he designed it himself, is also getting hot. He had five birdies on his opening nine holes, including kick-ins at 16, 17 and 18. - Neill Save those Travelers ticketsSave your Travelers Championship tickets!! If you’ve atended any day at the Travelers, you ticket will be good for admission to next month’s LPGA Duramed Futures New England Golf Classic at Wintonbury Hills in Bloomfield. The tournament is scheduled for July 17-19 and could feature Connecticut player Liz Janangelo, a four-time winner of the Women’s State Open. Tied againPerry birdied No. 3 and is tied at the top again. - Neill Merrick alone in firstFor the first time since early Thursday afternoon, Kenny Perry is not leading the Travelers Championship. Perry bogeyed No. 2 and is back to 10-under. John Merrick is alone at the top. Perry was only 93 yards away in the middle of the fairway but took four more shots from there on the par-4 second (long with his approach and three putts from 53 feet). - Neill |
