The Travelers Championship

The Travelers Championship

Short descriptive tagline

Game called

The worst is over here — hope you’re riding it out OK down by Bridgeport — but there’s a lot of water out on the course. Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m.

Weather warning

Not only is the weather coming, it could be bad.

The media in the tent here have been warned and we may be evacuated. Hail, wind, and a lot of other bad stuff is apparently on the way.

Play was just halted and there may be some heavy traffic hitting the roads soon. (Fans, as well as maybe players and reporter-types).

Working offline

Sorry for the lack of bloggin’ — Internet issues. The closest anyone has come to the lead while we were/it was out was Paul Goydos, who got to 9-under before giving one back. He’s at 8 with David Toms (3-under today through 11 holes) and Spencer Levin (2-under through seven);all three of them started on the back.

So too did J.J. Henry, who started on a run of pars, had a couple of birdies and now sits 1-under for the day through 13 holes.

Morning becomes afternoon becomes wet

The p.m. groups are headed out to the course. We’ll see if they stay out there, because it’s pouring here at the media center. The radar shows a gap behind this, at least for now.

Kenny Perry finished up a workmanlike 2-under 68 and is 11-under for the tournament, two ahead of Ryan Moore. Moore shot 65, tied for the best round of the morning, to move to 9-under. Aaron Watkins and Colt Knost are on the course at 8-under. Chez Reavie is in at 7-under, and Michael Allen just got to 7-under with only 18 to play.

Perry’s treading water

Travelers Championship leader Kenny Perry continues to stay at 11-under after he posted his seventh straight par. He’s got four holes left to play in his second round.

Moore on the move

Ryan Moore is making a mini-charge up the leaderboard in Cromwell. And with the bad weather coming (some of it already here), a mini-move may be worth even more today.

A superstar amateur and collegiate golfer a few years ago, Moore is 5-under on his round today after shooting a 66 on Thursday. Birdies on 2, 5 and 6 (his second nine holes of the round) today have him just shots behind the leader Kenny Perry.

Crane out

Ben Crane was withdrawn from the Travelers because of knee injury.

That’s the big (as in not really big) news as I enter the press room for the first time today.

Guess what? It’s raining

Gotta love those TV weathermen …

Every forecast called for warm temperatures and possible thunderstorms … LATE THIS AFTERNOON, but as of 10:10, the rain is now coming down all over the TPC at River Highlands.
