The Travelers Championship

J.J. Henry had a momentary lapse with a bogey at No. 4 after pushing his second shot to the 460-yard, par-4 into the rough to the right of the green but the former Fairfield resident recovered nicely at the par-3, 224-yard fifth as he put his tee shot within nine feet and made the putt for his fourth birdie of the day.
Heading to the 574-yard, par-5 6th Henry is 3-under for the day and 5-under for the tournament.

Where was this kind of start Thursday and Friday?
Whatever J.J. Henry might have been missing from his game in the first two rounds of the Travelers Championship, it looks like he could have found it.
Henry has gotten out the gates quickly so far in today’s third round, making birdies on his first two holes. He jarred a 22-foot putt for bird on No. 1 and then stiffed his approach on No. 2 to 6 feet and made that to jump to 4-under.
Usually Saturday’s on the PGA Tour is called “moving day” and if Henry can keep this up, he’s definitely going to be moving up the leaderboard.

Round 2 is in the books here at the Travelers Championship and Justin Rose (14-under) holds a comfortable four-shot lead over Kevin Sutherland (10-under).
Vijay Singh, Corey Pavin Charlie Wi and Bill Lunde are next at 9-under with three others at minus-8.
Fairfield’s J.J. Henry shot a 3-under 67 to make the cut at 2-under.

Fairfield’s J.J. Henry will play over the weekend.
Thanks to a 3-under 67, Henry finished the second round of the Travelers Championship at 2-under, just making the cut.
Henry had birdies at 12, 15, 2 and 5 with his lone bogey coming at 16.

Charlie Wi birdied No. 6, his 15th hole of the day, to move to 10-under-par with three holes to play. He’s the first person other than Justin Rose to hit double digits today.

Edit: Wi’s drive on 7 went into the bunker, and a bogey dropped him right back to 9-under.

J.J. Henry, one group ahead of Wi, is 2-under for the tournament after a birdie at No. 5. That’s where the cut line stands, with 76 golfers at minus-2 or better.

It started so well. A bogey at 2 and a birdie at 12 and heading to 13, Danbury’s Ken Green was at even-par and playing well in the opening round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open Friday in Endicott, N.Y.
Sadly, after that, the wheels fell off.
Green double bogeyed 13 and then bogeyed 15, 16, 17 and 18 to finish with an 78 — shooting a 40 on the back nine.
Hopefully, it was just some poor shots and not leg pain from the prosthetic that had Green struggling on the back side.

J.J. Henry birdied the 12th and 15th holes (his third and sixth of the day, starting on the back) to get to 1-under for the tournament, but he missed a short par putt on 16 to call back to 1-under today, even par for his first 25 holes.

Right now, the cut line is at minus-1, though that’s borderline. There are 68 golfers at 2-under or better, and the top 70 plus ties advance to the weekend.

Ken Green returned to Champions Tour action Friday as he played in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, N.Y. It’s just Green’s second individual start since his tragic RV accident last June that forced the amputation of the lower portion of his right leg.
Green returned to the game at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. He also played in the Regions Charity Classic in mid-May and finished 73rd in the 77-player field.
Lonnie Nielsen, the 2009 Dick’s champion, marvels at Green’s determination.
“He’s an inspiration for everybody. I can’t imagine even getting out of bed with what he’s had to go through,” Nielsen said. “I saw him walking up the steps after he played at the Legends, and it was all he could do. If there wouldn’t have been a railing, there was no chance he could have gotten into that clubhouse. I know how much pain he’s in. You can just tell it by watching him walk around, but he’s gone out and played some pretty respectable golf.”
